EIGEROY Latarnia Morska

Description:

EIGEROY Latarnia Morska

Eigerøy lighthouse At Eigerøy we find Norway’s first cast iron tower. It was constructed in 1854 and proved to be the first step into a technology that has set its stamp on Norwegian lighthouse architecture. Cast iron towers were to prove eminently suitable for Norwegian conditions. They could be prefabricated at the foundries and taken in parts to be assembled on the site. At the top of the tower is still the great first-order lens from 1897. This is fully operational and the public has access to the lamp room. From the gallery outside the light there is a panoramic view to all sides. The lighthouse is excellent for a day trip, by car or by boat. Cars can be parked at Nautasundet, about two kilometres from the lighthouse. From here you follow a track until the last 400 metres that are a marked nature trail. Boats can be anchored in the lighthouse harbour. The lighthouse is open on Sundays in July.
